Chapter Introduction

The Southeast Minnesota Heartland Chapter of the Preventive Cardiovascular Nursing Association was founded in 2019 by Kate Nilges, DNP, APRN, AGACNP-BC, to bring further awareness and education on cardiovascular disease to the area.

Kate Nilges, RN-BSN is a registered nurse at Mayo Clinic – Rochester in their Valvular Heart Disease Clinic and on their Ischemic / Comprehensive Cardiac Progressive Care Unit. She received her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology – Exercise Science in May 2015 from Iowa State University and an Accelerated Bachelor of Nursing from Allen College in December 2016. She is currently in school to achieve her Doctorate of Nursing Practice in the Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program at Winona State University and plans to continue practicing in cardiology upon completion of her degree. She founded the SE Minnesota Heartland chapter in 2019 and continues as the chapter president. In her free time, she likes exploring the outdoors with her husband and 15-month-old daughter. Kate looks forward to continuing to grow the SE Minnesota Heartland chapter and getting to know and network with all of you!

Our chapter strives to promote professional development and networking among cardiovascular professionals in our area, as well as nationwide. We aim to increase awareness regarding cardiovascular disease and further educate ourselves and our peers on the newest preventive and therapeutic modalities. We hold educational programs in the fall and spring and highly encourage attendance at the Annual Symposium, as this is a great opportunity to learn together and network within our ever-growing field.
